This book collects 25 interviews with significant American authors, including Allen Ginsberg, Wallace Stegner, Scott Turow, Jim Harrison, Sue Miller, Ruth Stone and Richard Wilbur. The first half, called "Theory," includes interviews with writer-teachers about how they teach. The second half, called "Practice" has talks with writers about how they work which validate and exemplify the principles set out in the first half.
